If you were alien, an extraterrestrial

torn in two, missing home, I would leave my world, board your silver rocket ship. Blast off to the stars, just we two.
If You Were Alien - The Brunettes

I bought this dress last month at some Christmas Markets in my town. In an effort to bring people back into the heart of town and away from the shopping centres every December our town holds a number of night markets called The Red Lantern markets. Everything sold there is hand made and usually by local people. The necklace above is a lace heart, given to me by a friend who has a stall at these markets. It was an unexpected Christmas gift when I eyed it off when I attended the last market leading up to Christmas.

This particular dress is crafted from old tea towells and it is my new tea party dress. I have worn it a few times now to a tea party I held, to a jazz gig and to a New Year's Eve picnic on the foreshore. If you have been known to frequent Bondi Markets the lady who created this dress used to attend those quite a bit before she found it too hard to compete with prices. I love wearing this dress, even if it is quite a bit more low cut and revealing than I am used to, even with a slip.

I can't trap a mouse

but I can pet a cat. No I'm really serious, I'm really very good at that.

- The Perfect Fit, The Dresden Dolls

New dress ahoy! I had intended to stay away from the shops during this time of crazy sales and special prices. I am saving you see. Saving to go overseas in June and also to register and insure my new vintage canary yellow Vespa. Pretty sure that's going to cost me a fortune. I promise a blog on it when I get it in within (hopefully) the next week or so.

Anyway I went with mum to the shops with the intention of seeing if a book I wanted was in Angus & Robertson yet. But we got side tracked by Myer. And I ended up with 2 new dresses. One was on special but this one of course was not. It's rare for things I like to be on sale haha. I have unfortunately and cursably expensive taste. And a penchant for justifying spending a few hundred on a dress. Fear not though, this was not hundreds of dollars. It's a Quirky Circus dress and is currently in stock in Myer if it takes your fancy.

Somewhere along the line my cat Poppy decided to join in the photographic fun.

At the heart of every fool, is the hope that you're stupid too..

Emotional rollercoasters are really exhausting. I may have gone to bed at 4.30am this morning but I slept in pretty late. 5 hours awake and I am already ready to take the lapcat I have and head back to bed. I have an annoying inability to sit down, get upset and cry over something. As a result I bottle it up until I start waking up feeling sick to the stomach.

I could also blame the desire to nap on the essay I have to write on the Boxer Rebellion. Naps are great procrastination. This time I really am really tired and I can feel it all the way down to my bones.

In happier, more interesting news, I got a new dress yesterday...again! I think that is now 10 new dresses since I moved house. It's an addiction. Now I just need to get addicted to shoes, because I've worn holes in the bottom of mine again. This is also my second pair of red tights, they are bit more muted in colour and vibrancy that the We Love Colours ones. I think I might get some more of their tights whilst the Australian dollar is doing so well. Perhaps in teal or another nice greenish shade.

Swim, until you can't see land

Get out the jump leads, it's time to restart this blog! Picture in your mind a Frankenstein and his monster style scene with thunder and lightning and reanimation. Frankenstein is a great story by the way and you should read it if you haven't already!

I've moved house and even settled in to a degree. Half my room is unpacked, well at least all the clothes, books, cds and DVDS are away. I now have an antique wardrobe instead of my magical TARDIS and I also have a wrought iron clothes rack. Jackets, skirts and tops and shoes go in the wardrobe. Dresses go on the clothing rack, which I have already filled. I now have even more respect for my TARDIS which now lives in my art studio out the back. I have no idea how I fit everything in it! Once I get everything sorted (it's currently acting as a storage shed for things we haven't unpacked yet) I will take great delight in covering it in inspiration and making clothes and art within it.

The floors in our house were clearly not replaced after the flood here and walking from one end of the house is a bit like walking on the ocean. Everything is uneven and propped up by folded bits of cardboard but strangely I don't mind it here that much. I certainly never want to move again. I had 17 boxes of books alone!

I have a few new dresses, some I have yet to even wear. This one I purchased yesterday and took the opportunity to wear this morning.

In other news a friend of mine recently purchased some rollerblades from K-Mart. We were going to go for a skate yesterday but she twisted her ankle. However I then watched Whip It (great movie) and was completely in the mood to don mum's rollerskates, so another friend biked over to join me today. I can't roller blade. I'm told it's the same if not easier, but I've never been one to take the easy option =P I never learnt though my best friend did try to teach me once around her house which was set amongst fig trees. As you can imagine the footpath was not conducive of learning!

I skated 6km all the way to the beach and only stacked it twice! Once at a dip before a gutter, at which point Ryan, who had seen the dip, was prepared to catch me when I crashed into him. And a second stack which occured when trying to avoid a grate on the path and an old man simultaneously. I failed but the nice old man saved me from face planting...

this certainly applied to me! footpath was sectioned off so we had to use the badly paved carpark haha.
Pretty sure I looked disabled...

The flower said 'I wish I was a tree'

Today was the Birthday of one of my friends. It was a lovely day of breakfast for lunch, cakes in the park, Toy Story 3 (second time for me, and I will probably see it again) and tree climbing.

I finally got to wear one of my new Melbourne dresses! One dress I have been wearing for about a week now but I hadn't had a chance to wear the others yet. I still have one to go but I have to fix a button on it and find the right slip to wear under it. It might also be a strictly summer dress. I haven't decided.

This dress I really wanted to wear with red tights. I do have some on order, but they aren't here yet. I can't wait til I have red tights and it's more summery and I don't have to wear a top under it. I wore a new broach today as well. It's from my favourite shop in Melbourne and is titled 'Flying Fox.' The shop is called Subject to Change and is not my favourite so much because of what is in it, though it does have good things of course, but rather because of the guy who works there. He remembered that I went into his shop one time, even though it was a year between visits and I didn't buy anything the first time. I thought that was impressive and we got chatting. He has similar tastes in music, though it runs more to my parent's bands. I think he would get along splendidly with both mum and dad, same age group and interests. So I like to stop by and visit him every time I am in Melbourne.

It is my own Birthday in exactly one week.

A Horse is a Horse Of Course, Of course...

Yesterday when I got home from Uni a most delightful package was waiting for me. I confess I opened it right there and put it on.

I first saw this dress on Rebecca's blog The Clothes Horse, (like a stalker I check her blog every day haha) and loved it. This is the post, and her photos do the dress more justice. She's incredibly lucky to live where she does I think, it always looks so pretty . There's something very quirky about it that just fits me. And I do love an individual piece of clothing. I can make my own clothes, but I'm lazy, all the better to pay someone else to make lovely things for me. Rebecca collaborated with desinger NeeNee to come up with this fantastic creation. Feel free to check her out on Etsy, there's some interesting things there, though this is my favourite.

The beautiful fabric is nice and heavy to hold its shape and I think will be a most excellent special occasion dress for winter.

I really can't commend this dress enough. It's perfectly made and beautifully lined.

Enjoy. x
