Battle for the sun

Hmm I have no idea what I wore last winter. None! I am sitting here trying to pack for lovely Melbourne which is supposed to be a balmy 10 whole degrees tomorrow. I think that's a top of 10, even better! This would go better if I had a coat. Or boots. These things are at the top of my shopping list for my visit.

So I've managed to put together 2 outfits that will withstand the chill...or at least withstand it as much as I ever do. However, I suspicion that 2 outfits does not last one a week... Dad's girlfriend has recommended thermals and Rosie tells me that yesterday and today have been Melbourne's coldest days in June in 12 years. I am going to DIE.

I came to the realisation last night that it's been at least 2 years, maybe more since I visited dad in winter. Usually I go in October or November. I do remember freezing half to death last time I did go in winter. I remember ducking into completely random shops because I couldn't walk another step down the street without visiting some source of heating. Yes, I get very cold. So cold in fact I am starting to doubt whether or not I will be able to go overseas in the middle of winter. It seems a bit like pure insanity on my behalf... Having said that I prefer to be cold rather than overly hot. Once you are naked you can't take more things off to cool down. And if in public you will be arrested...

In other news, today I saw the new trailer for Deathly Hallows. I got quite distracted by it and stood in the cold in my towel for a good 10 minutes before I realized I was in danger of turning into an icicle. Silly. So exciting. I don't know that I am looking forward to anything quite as much as this. It's a bit bollocks that they are being released nearly 8 months apart though! Part 2 comes out July next year. That's either going to be the best or worst Birthday present ever. A few friends are debating what to take to the cinema with them to distract me from the fact that my obsession of many years will then be completely over forever... They are preparing for some kind of mental breakdown I think.

Last night I went to a friend's house. I am educating her in Harry Potter as she has never read the books, nor seen the films. Another friend of mine threatened to come over with a broom and spray bottle and chase me out of my room if I didn't take the opportunity to be social. Anyway I had gone to bed at 4am the previous 2 nights and so was 'watching' them with my eyes closed. I came to the rather sad realisation that I didn't even have to open my eyes or look at the screen to answer Mel's queries about the films...

I am now more excited about my Birthday party haha. I finished some of the invites today because I have to take some with me to give to people there. I have sealed them with red wax and I fear the seal will not fair well in the post. So it seems I will be delivering them by hand. I would post a picture but that would spoil the surprise for some of the recipients.

Put your face on a contact lens, only I have been to all the places we've seen

The lovely Eleanor departed to lands afar this evening. Seems to be a trend among my nearest and dearest haha. I will have my turn one day. So to say goodbye I bussed/walked over to her house at a ridiculously early hour that required being awake before 7pm. Uuurgh. But walks in the freezing cold are surprisingly invigorating, if not so great for extremities like noses.

I hung around and talked to her mother about my vague overseas plans while she went through her own awakening routines and then we went to the movies. I was the mildly awkward 7th wheel to a 3 couple set but oh well. We went to see Toy Story 3. Quite the epic movie! I am not sure if I prefer that one or the 2nd one, probably the 2nd but give it time. I think it lived up to the hype.

Finished said beanie last night. It looks somewhat like a gum nut. It was a good learning experience. Now I know what to adjust and such so that the next one is better. As everyone has departed for sunny Europe I should have quiiite a bit of time on my hands.

Although this beanie was the 'learning curve' beanie I quite like it. I don't like beanies that cover my forehead...in fact I like beanies that I can forget I am wearing. Ones that keep me warm without bothering me, which this one does as I have worn it all day haha. Still, I will make the next one longer before I start decreasing so it sits on my head more. Or on the head of whoever I give it to.

I actually bought the skirt I am wearing to match my fox beanie. It has little red riding printed all over it. But it worked with this hat as well.

Taken in by the delicate noise, knocked to the ground by the subtle thunder

Well yesterday I decided I was sick of knitting in a straight line and I wanted to learn how to knit a beanie. I bought some wool and needles on my way to a friends and by about 2 in the morning (I was watching Harvey Birdman and Disney's Robin Hood at the same time) I had half a beanie! Huzzah. Most exciting.

I suspect it may just end up being just a cm or 2 too big but better to be too big than too small I think. And not at all bad for a first beanie...I think. I can't wait until it's finished.

Also I have no impulse control and am attracted to pretty things. These were on special, came in a variety of very pretty colours and are so soft! Who could resist...well certainly not me! So I got 3 balls of yarn instead of the one colour like I actually needed. More beanies? We shall see.

It's overcast and cloudy so they are lit with a lamp, not the best for true colour accuracy but take my word, they are pretty haha.

And now off to the last French class for the term. We are having a party. Woo French cuisine to keep us occupied while we fail at the language!

Au revoir tout le mond x

I'll show you in spring, it's a treacherous thing, we miss you hissed the love cats.

Here are the long talked about photos I took for my photography assignment! I get distracted easily, I forgot about them. Some of them I really like. In fact one I really LOVE and I plan to frame it. The others are so so and I don't like them so much. I didn't want to be professional about it...not that I probably could have been if I wanted to! Haha, but I actually wanted an amateur blog style type of photograph. Everyday photos kind of thing if you get what I mean?

To present them I had them printed in a range of 3 different sizes and they are to be laid out randomly all mixed up. Theres 22 in total but I don't think I will post them allll. Some are really cluttered others are really simple. Together it's a cluttered mess...but it sort of works. Which kind of describes my house =]

Do you feel like a stalker looking into other people's homes? Isn't it fun! Really though, I love photos of peoples homes. It is fascinating to see how people create their own spaces, it is part of what I find fascinating about blogs. People are all so different and have such varied tastes. Like they say, it would be boring if we were all the same.

Kissing the Lipless

Have you figured out that most of my blog titles come from the song I am listening to when I write my blog? Sometimes it fits very well. In this instance kissing the lipless has absolutely nothing to do with picnics in the park haha. Oh well.

Last week was pretty good. My best friend came to visit me from Melbourne and my other best friend visited from Coffs Harbour before flying off to torture kids with Vegemite in summer camps in the US. We decided to take advantage of a rare spot of sun and have a picnic. Seeing as the grass has spent the last 2 weeks being rained on it was still damp so we needed to put a very attractive large tarp under our picnic blanket. I don't know that we would have all fit on the picnic blanket anyway. 2 of us are very tall. I am the dwarf of this quartet.

I made scones and Rosie whipped cream and we put it in a glass jug. We purchased home made style New Zealand Blackberry jam. I made hot chocolate using a bar of cadbury's chocolate and a few pieces of lindt chili chocolate melted into a pot of milk. We put it in a metal teapot and stirred whipped cream in on top in our mugs. We emptied a wicker basket and carried it off to the park
(There was also barbeques chicken and salad and rolls to be remotely healthy and a cinnamon tea bun.)

Then I dashed home for the forgotten footpath chalk...maybe I will call it sidewalk chalk, I don't call the footpath a sidewalk but footpath chalk sounds wrong. Anyways I returned with the chalk and we made a section of the walkway along the creek pretty with our scratchings. You'd never be able to tell that one of us is an art student studying to be an art teacher. I felt quite ashamed.

My shoes looked like this after our adventures. Much more interesting than plain rubber soles I think. I should chalk my shoes more often. Just think of the footprints I could create.
Then half our party left, leaving us to clean and carry the dregs of our picnic home. Next time I will have more time, more food and more chalk!

Ice Queenery

I went to a 21st last night. As it the birthday falls on what is here the Queen's Birthday long weekend the theme was royalty. I can't remember if I have mentioned it previously, its likely I have, I am having a Harry Potter themed party this year. My Luna wig arrived a couple of days ago so I decided to utilise it and get my moneys worth and go as the Ice Queen. I am so never dying my hair blonde, not that it was an ambition of mine. I look a bit like a Disney princess but it was lots of fun. I should have liked to have more time to work on the costume. The dress is hire and the crown is from the supermarket, usually I like to make my own.

There was a Marie Antoinette, Scott Prince, Larry King, Sir Lancelot, Lady Guinevere, King of the Jungle, Dancing Queens, Queen Bee, an Indian Chief, King Tut, Cleopatra and I think that's all I can recall.

I wish I was a more social person. I am not very good at parties or groups of people.

Foxish people

I ordered a beanie from the lovely Talk2theTrees. It arrived on Friday and it is the best hat ever! I cant wear normal beanies as they itch my forehead. This one is good as you can guess as it doesn't cover my forehead =]

You can buy one of your very own here.

Another package that arrived on Friday was this amazing raccoon ring. Fortunately I got the last one, so sorry, but you can't get one =[ However they have some amazing animal related jewellery on there, check it out here.
If you can't tell I am addicted to animal things hehe.

I should have pictures for you all soon. My best friend is here to stay with me for a week and I finished my photography assignment so I shall have some photos of things in my house.

Why do you let me stay here?

I feel the need to share this lovely video. I thought 'In the Sun' was my favourite song clip but I was proven wrong today. The great part being that I wasn't procrastinating because I was actually looking for videos for my screen project, which may have changed again, a movie is better than a website if I don't manage to complete it. Definitely feeling the stress uuuurgh.

I would love love love to re-create this video but I know of no males who can dance like this, even if I removed the backflip! These are some of the best dance moves ever created. And as usual she looks far too stunning. I am so jealous of this girl, it's not fair that she gets to be so damn adorable!

Oh and outfit post #2. One of the best dresses in my wadrobe. Fantastic cut, huge chunky red exposed zipper down the back, hot pink buttons fastening the straps at the back. And Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup printed liberally all over the dress.

Puzzle with a piece missing

Hmm I completely forgot that I was going to ask the internets an opinion. I have recently been pondering the whole shorts over tights movement. I can't even remember the last time I wore shorts. It may have been year 11, I had these horrible pair of sports shorts for school. The fabric was really harsh and disgusting and I used to complain that they were touching me. At no point in my life have I been known for wearing shorts. I have also never been sure that they look decent on me. I think my legs are too curvy and disproportionate.

What do you think? Could I pull off shorts? I don't mean high waisted high cut type shorts, or knee length shorts, just...shorts. Maybe a nice vintage look with a blouse or cardigan over opaque tights?

Contemplating shorts coming into winter seems a bit odd but really how much cooler are they than wearing a skirt and tights? And shorts don't blow up in the wind...

*EDIT - it's been pointed out that I wore shorts for my 20th. But I made those myself and they are more bloomers than shorts and quite unflattering...oh well here's me in 'shorts.'

I'll just keep it to myself in the sun

I should have a few outfit posts over the next couple of days. Today I changed my major project for my screen based project, after a minor breakdown last night. It's due on Monday and can be anything that goes on a screen, ie. computer, projector, phone screen etc. Anything. All well and good except the only skill he has managed to teach us in a whole semester id a bit of movie editing with iMovie. I don't have a Mac computer =/ And though creative my mind doesn't run to short film ideas.

So I am falling back on my I.T friend's knowledge and we are going to see if he can teach me how to make a website in an evening. Yay! Stress!

Anyways there is a point to this, and the point is what I am doing for my website, or rather plan on doing. I have a habit of being too ambitious. At this late date I couldn't think of anything and was stressing. Late last night in a fit of Marilyn Manson (this may seem bizarre to you but I find him calming? A friend said that confronted with the amount of anger he conveys you just can't be as angry as he is so your mind says 'why compete?') I decided to be true to the theme of 'self promotion' and make a website for me. Self Promotion is a stupid theme by the way.

So my idea, which will probably never actually be exposed to the internet because I don't really see the point, is to have a site that sort of combines my Deviantart page and my Blog. It is going to have outfits and things I have made, photos of my house I took for photography and some artworks. And possibly some mini movies I made for earlier screen tasks (I wrapped myself in foil).

So today mum and I took outfit shots. It was sunny! and warm! Amazing! ...it has been raining for about 2 weeks now. I might be pretty busy over the next few days with assignments so I shall space my outits out a bit to compensate? Not that anyone really reads this haha. Sometimes I think blogging is me talking to myself... hmm insanity.

To kick it off the Zooey Deschanel oufit I wore last week but didnt photograph. This is for Em =]

I have lost a teeny bit of weight apparently and need to take my skirt in a bit, which is why it is sitting a bit oddly
